Description :

Lennon House is the first charitable organization on PEI to establish a client centred recovery home of its kind. Lennon House is located in Rustico, PE in the former Belcourt Centre which was made available through the Roman Catholic Dioceses of Charlottetown. The locale and the program will meet specific needs of persons living with and recovering from addiction and the co-occurring mental health disorders. It is especially designed for those individuals to heal and thrive in a safe familial environment and in an atmosphere of daily living with others in a spirit of cooperation, respect and creativity. Lennon House will offer a number of alternative therapies and exercises, as well as individual and group counselling as well as services catered to each individual's needs.
The former Belcourt Centre was on Canada's top 10 list of historical sites to be demolished and with such a need for a facility and the importance of the location in such a small rural community we have been working very hard to restore the facility and plan programs for our soon to arrive clients. There is huge support in the community and the province for this facility and to move forward to accommodate the many people requesting attendance at our facility we need to have the exterior of the facility repaired with insulation and siding as well as windows flashed and sealed, exterior doors need to be replaced and some windows. The estimated cost of this repair (is our biggest) is $100,000. Many entrepreneurs and volunteers in the small rural community have helped out so much with fundraising, volunteer and discounted labour. The many lives that this facility could change is unimaginable. With the help of the Aviva $100,000 grant we could get the necessary repairs completed on the exterior. That would leave us with the few remaining repairs to the inside (that can't be completed until the exterior is done) and allow us to concentrate our work on finalizing our programs and welcoming clients into the centre. We would like to open the doors sooner rather than later as we get approximately 10 emails a day asking for help and if we are open yet. This facility will welcome not only Islanders but those from across the country looking for alternative therapies to recovery and living their "Best Life." We will also be offering extended programming and living facilities for those who are unable to afford financially or emotionally to live on their own - we have already had requests from several organizations that we will be partnering with to offer care to those who are homeless due to addiction and willing to make a new start.
