We are a community theater group, one of several in the area, that is without a home in our local city of Yorkton. We would like to propose a renovation of one of the warehouse buildings within the city that would house various arts groups that are in the same situation as we have found ourselves in.
While we do have two beautiful theaters in Yorkton, they are both housed in the high schools, which means access is limited. What we would like to see is a venue that would have a couple of rehearsal spaces for theater groups, storage space for sets and props, a construction area, rooms for other artists to work in and perhaps a performance area.
Our community has had several new huge businesses come to the area which has meant new construction and a population explosion, making the cost of real estate skyrocket as the newcomers scramble to find a new home. While there are several old buildings that could be utilized, the initial cost of purchase and renovation would be difficult for the volunteer based groups that would use the facility, but that is not deterring us! The show must go on.....
The mobile stage, props, lights and sound equipment has all been used by our community for loan and we could do so much more! This money would give us a real spotlight for our communtiy and surrounding area.
We hope our idea will move forward..."On with the Show this is it!"
