LOUD & CLEAR

Affichée le novembre 28, 2009

In a world where an idea exists that an answer lies somewhere outside ourselves, we often loose focus of the simple fact that the community is the individual. Each member playing a role in its entity. The individuals within the community defining it. What we choose to do or not do is a factor in its makeup. Each individual interacting and influencing others. Through community all things are possible. If a community chooses to stand for something, there is power in numbers. As the extension of the community grows and the numbers of individuals contained within it, there is nothing that can not be overcome. The current Canadian Political System is broken. As the numbers in voter turn-outs has been steadily declining, there is and has been a minority government representing Canadians. When less than half of a Democratic nation shows up to have a say in the government that operates it, something needs to be done. No area of your life in untouched by politics. Please, take a moment to think about it. Where you live, work, where you or your children go to school, where you have your healthcare needs met all relying on the decisions made by the government. Taxes, Food and Health Regulations, the Environment, International Relations, the Education System, Healthcare all under the influence of government. Yet, when it comes to voting, we as Canadians have a very relaxed attitude towards the rights that millions of people have died for in the last century. People are still willing to sacrifice their life today in order to have the right to vote. The Democratic System was built on the idea of majority rules. What then when the 'Majority' is not saying anything? The Democratic System is made on the ideals that not only individual has not only the 'Right' to vote but also the 'Responsibility' to vote. Created on the basis that the individual is to take time, even from work, to make an informed decision about the government that will overlook all of the major areas of life while we go about the day to day. It is the one place where who you are has no judgement. No matter what your class, colour, gender or lifestyle, if you are a Canadian citizen, you are recognized equally. Voters seem to believe that each vote is 'meaningless', forgetting that the each makes up the whole. I believe that it is necessary for voters to become more aware and involved in politics. Enough with 'social taboo's' and excuses about it. I wish to create a movement of political information that is interesting and informational about the Democratic System and how it works. We touched on it in school, but I don't remember getting clarification on what to do if I don't want to vote for anyone that is running. Truth is, I was told to pick the lesser of evils. In reality, if you are a Canadian citizen who is registered to vote, have shown government issued identification and have signed to confirm the vote is counted, it has to be accounted for. The ones that are unmarked are counted as 'rejected'. In the political game these votes influence who is running in what areas based on demand. If some one will show up to vote for no one, they can be counted on to show up if their confidence is won. We exist in a world where we are all a community, even if sometimes we don’t live like it. When we become aware of our role as the individual within the community we can take responsibility for how we are influencing the community as a whole. What you do makes a difference. What community do you want to live in? You are an important member of my community. I wish you to know that your choices effect not only you, but me and everyone in everyday of your existence together. I know that together we make a difference. If I receive funding for my project I will campaign for Informed Voters who know their Right and Responsibilities of living in a Democratic Nation. Aware of the Governments Roles and Responsibilities to the citizens. Empowering the individual to strengthen the community, as a nation, and in turn the world. Thank you for your time and consideration.
