• With planting season upon us, thousands of plastic plant trays and pots will end up in landfill. Check the bottom of the container, and if it has a recycling symbol and the number ‘1’ or ‘2’, you can place it in your blue box for recycling.
• Using a clothesline instead of a clothes dryer in the warm months will save substantially on your electric bill. A dryer is one of the highest users of household energy.
• Idling a vehicle wastes precious fuel and contributes pollutants into the air that we all breathe. Be thoughtful towards your fellow citizens, and turn off the engine.
• When theres good weather, let’s all try to get out of our cars more. Walk or bike whenever possible. You’ll be surprised at how much more you will see when on foot!
• Try separating your vegetable and fruit peels from your regular garbage and see what a lighter load you have to take to the curb each week! Backyard composters (Garden Gourmet Composter) are available at Home Hardware stores near you.
• Our local grocery stores are getting on the bandwagon by offering alternatives to plastic bags. More shoppers than ever before are taking their own materialized grocery bags or even cloth bags to the grocery store. Thank you, and let’s keep that trend going!
• If we kept the strong plastic clothes hangars we will be recycling as they are put out for garbage pick-up every week.
• World-wide, our fresh water resources are dwindling. Having respect for one of our greatest resources can be shown by careful and thoughtful use of water in our daily lives.
