  • Endroit : GreyBruce, Ontario: Owen Sound and Hanover
  • Catégorie : Protégez l’environnement
  • Coût : À moyen budget (10 000 $ à 50 000 $)

A Full Circle Idea: Our hope is to set up a licenced E-Waste site for Habitat for Humanity ReStores, Grey Bruce. E waste will be collected locally and recycled through a central recycling agency . The funds generated will be directed to Habitat for Humantiy Grey Bruce, a charitable housing organization. Habitat for Humanity will then further engage the community to build safe, affordable homes with partnering families.

This IDEA fulfills a desire to both promote and protect our environment. It responsibly diverts a list of recyable products that are presently heading for landfill sites. It encourages education of our enviornmental options and promotes strong environmental stewardship.

Community Volunteers are an intricate part of this project. Volunteers will empower the project to promote, collect and recycle the E Waste items that will be collected. They will then sort and ship the E Waste from the ReStore locations to a recycling depot. The community will be engaged in the donation of local residential and commercial donation of E Waste.

The E Waste project will be centrally located at the ReStores in Owen Sound and Hanover. This service will be available to the Counties of Grey and Bruce.

The project will: - Identify commercial sources that generate E Waste and soliciate their support. - Contact all municipalities to ensure we are part of the "E Waste" days that are scheduled throughout the counties. - Ensure that the E Waste collection program is included in all municipal publications relating to waste management. - Recruit community volunteers to assist in the collection, sorting and shipping of the E Waste. - Create an on site E Waste facility at the Restores, Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce. - Create a promotional package and promotional events to support the project. - Collect and recieve E Waste on a Monday-Saturday schedule to the ReStore, Habitat for Humanity locations in both Owen Sound and Hanover, Grey & Bruce Counties.

Habitat for Humantiy is a charitable organization dedicated to the eradication of poverty housing. This is an international organization with local Canadian Affiliates. These Affiliates stretch across Canada, coast to coast. The Restore program is a fundraising event for each Affilaite.

The ReStores collect and accept donations of surplus and used "Home Improvement Products". These product are sold to the public through its retail outlet. The funds generated are returned to Habitat for Humanty for home building projects locally and internationally.

The addition of an E Waste centre fits very will with the ReStore mandate of recycling. It empowers our community volunteers, helps to promote strong environmental stewardship principles and helps return funds to Habitat for Humanity. This in turn provides homes. Locally we have constructed 24 homes in Grey and Bruce Counties.

We are requesting funding to provide start up costs, this will include: -Project co-ordinator for 12 months. $35,000.00 (includes all related employment costs) -Collection site improvements $ 4,000.00 -Promotional materials $5,800.00 brochures/business cards/signage -Mileage for Co-ordinator $2,400.00 (50.Klm/1200 klm) -Office support $2,000.00 (computer/office space/phone)

Total $49,200.00

Other related costs such as volunteer appreciation, tools, professional development, Health and Safety etc. will be absorbed by the ReStore Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce.

Return from recycle E Waste program is $165.00/ton.
Expected tonnage after 1 year of operation is: 300 tons 300 tons = $49,500.00

The co-ordinaters position will be expanded after the start up year to include other ReStore/Habitat for Humanity Recycling projects.

This is a self sustaining project that will be of benefit to our Community for years to come.

Todate the ReStores of Grey and Bruce have diverted 2155 tons of product from local landfill sites. The E Waste will be in addition to these numbers.

This project is seeking start up funding, but will be self- sustaining into the future. Renumerations from the tonnage collected will offset any ongoing related costs as well as providing additional funds back to Habitat for Humanity.

We are very excited about the possiblities of this project. It is a win win project for many people in our community and helps promote education and responsibility of our E Waste.

We look forward to seeing you at our E Waste Recycle window.
