Every girl deserves to feel like a princess, no matter what she's been through in her life. We can't deny that abuse, addictions, low self esteem an injustice are plaguing this generation of young women, causing many of them to feel like their tiaras have been tattered and their value has been lost. The idea behind "Tattered Tiaras" is to develop programs that help to restore life and identity to young women throughout Canada, and equip leaders in communties accross the county to better meet the needs of girls. The goal of Tattered Tiaras is to help young women in Canada realize their true value and equip them with the tools they need to accomplish their dreams and change the lives of people they come in contact with. Girls need to KNOW that they are valuable.

There are several parts to carrying this out: The first is working with teen girls here in Canada. We offer a number of different programs and events that deal with issues that many girls face. Holding "girls nights", workshops and assemblies that addresses topics such as low -self esteem, depression, addictions, eating disorders, divorce, abuse, gender equality etc. will help to address the issues that prevent many girls from thriving in life.

Secondly, we focus on training leaders in communities. It may be effective to go into a comminuty and run a one day or even week long program for girls, but when our team leaves, we don't want the change to leave with us. We are currently developing curriculum that we can leave with leaders in commuities throughout Canada that digs deeper into many of the issues mentioned above. We want to equip leaders in their own communities to walk through life with these girls as they heal and change into healthy, effective young women. As wequip leaders to touch their communites, we will be able to affect the lives of so many more girls.

The third thing we do is train girls to make a difference. We have developed a program for girls to be a part of that helps prepare them to make a difference. This program includes finding a mentor or woman that they respect and look up to. To complete the program each teen must meet with their mentor bi-weekly. Girls are also given a workwork to complete over a 12 week period, with input from their mentor. Upon completion of the program each girl has the option to be a part of a team that does something beyond herself to make a difference. They may travel to Northern Canada to work with First Nations communities, or to a country overseas to reach out to girls and women who live in poverty and are faced with injustice every day. The purpose of these trips is to show girls that they can make a difference and that when they find purpose and healing in their own lives, they will be better equipped to help others and see their own dreams become reality.

This project is not just limited to one community, race or social group; there are hurting, discouraged girls across the country that are desperate for someone to walk through hardships in life with them. Although a part of this idea includes taking girls outside of Canada, he purpose of these international trips is not only to help bring hope and change to International women, but also to help young women in Canada realize their own value and ability to give back. My hope is that as these young women go through this process they will begin to see their value, accomplish their own goals and dreams, and then become a mentor for another young woman.
