Every girl deserves to feel like a princess, no matter what she's been through in her life. We can't deny that abuse, addictions, low self esteem an injustice are plaguing this generation of young women, causing many of them to feel like their tiaras have been tattered and their value has been lost. The idea behind "Tattered Tiaras" is to develop programs that help to restore life and identity to young women throughout Canada, and equip leaders in communties accross the county to better meet the needs of girls. The goal of Tattered Tiaras is to help young women in Canada realize their true value and equip them with the tools they need to accomplish their dreams and change the lives of people they come in contact with. Girls need to KNOW that they are valuable.
There are several parts to carrying this out: The first is working with teen girls here in Canada. We offer a number of different programs and events that deal with issues that many girls face. Holding "girls nights", workshops and assemblies that addresses topics such as low -self esteem, depression, addictions, eating disorders, divorce, abuse, gender equality etc. will help to address the issues that prevent many girls from thriving in life.
Secondly, we focus on training leaders in communities. It may be effective to go into a comminuty and run a one day or even week long program for girls, but when our team leaves, we don't want the change to leave with us. We are currently developing curriculum that we can leave with leaders in commuities throughout Canada that digs deeper into many of the issues mentioned above. We want to equip leaders in their own communities to walk through life with these girls as they heal and change into healthy, effective young women. As wequip leaders to touch their communites, we will be able to affect the lives of so many more girls.
The third thing we do is train girls to make a difference. We have developed a program for girls to be a part of that helps prepare them to make a difference. This program includes finding a mentor or woman that they respect and look up to. To complete the program each teen must meet with their mentor bi-weekly. Girls are also given a workwork to complete over a 12 week period, with input from their mentor. Upon completion of the program each girl has the option to be a part of a team that does something beyond herself to make a difference. They may travel to Northern Canada to work with First Nations communities, or to a country overseas to reach out to girls and women who live in poverty and are faced with injustice every day. The purpose of these trips is to show girls that they can make a difference and that when they find purpose and healing in their own lives, they will be better equipped to help others and see their own dreams become reality.
This project is not just limited to one community, race or social group; there are hurting, discouraged girls across the country that are desperate for someone to walk through hardships in life with them. Although a part of this idea includes taking girls outside of Canada, he purpose of these international trips is not only to help bring hope and change to International women, but also to help young women in Canada realize their own value and ability to give back. My hope is that as these young women go through this process they will begin to see their value, accomplish their own goals and dreams, and then become a mentor for another young woman.
Below is a proposal for the use of funds...
Our yearly revenue comes in through: - income generated from girls nights - income geneated by the sale of printed mateial and curriculum - income from the sale of t-shirts and other Tattered Tiaras merchandise - individual monthly support (through non profit)

Now that you are almost through to the semi-finals, maybe your supporters could spare a thought for another community trying to help its youth ? We are registered on this site as idea 1551. Bear River, Nova Scotia has its fair share of drug and alcohol related issues and we are trying to add a playground to the village to give our children a safe, fun environment in which to play and interact. Our hope is to make the playground the focus of cross-generational and cross-cultural socialisation, bringing people together on all levels to help create a more dynamic, involved society within the village. Please spare a minute to add your vote to our round 3 voting next week. It will mean so much to our coming generation to get this playground in place. Many thanks.

I however am trying to help both boys and girls. I started a youth ministry in my home. I have kids coming and going on a regular basis and some of them just need to know somoeone cares and others need self-esteem building. They are children who have gotten lost in the shuffle of life and are wayward, I feel we as a nation need to stand up and hear the cries of these children and help them to overcome. As an adult, I truly wished that there was something like Tattered Tiaras back when I was a young girl. It certainly would have helped me to avoid some very unhealthy relationships. A girl needs to have a place where she can be herself, warts and all and find acceptance. Please cast your vote, and save a life. You may think that I am being overly dramatic, but the facts are girls who don't realize that they are princesses will allow themselves to be abused, either by others or by themselves. The girls need this, and I would have to say with all honesty...so do their mothers!

It is good to see an idea that helps girls understand who they are and how knowing who they are will lead them into their destiny. Best wishes.

I'm coming over from Thirsty Church(acf1612) to cast a vote for your project; to say "HI" and congratulations to your group on making it into the Semi-finals. Our group is having a roller-coaster ride between 23rd and 25th place. If you wish, come have a look at see what we are all about. We welcome visitors to our posting and any support we can get over the next three days. We're proud of the support received from our small rural community of less than 200 people.

Wow just read your comments... Sounds like a great thing you have going. Our hurting youth have really appreciated Beautiful Unique Girl a similiar idea around here. This would really be a great thing for your area. Great to see your church support. Would offer to help but we are getting bounced around between 27 and 23rd spot. My votes are for all of you in the top 60.,realizing that not everyone will make the top 25. I am so amazed by all the comments in all of the categories and ideas. Every idea is deserving of support. This has brought so many communities together to support each other's ideas. Let's all vote for each other tomorrow. Thank you to Aviva for creating this opportunity. I know the lasting alliances and friendships between our communities can go on, long after the voting ends. Let us take time to reflect, not only on our effort for our own ideas, but for everyone who has supported our ideas, friends, family, neighbours, etc. Thank you.

It looks as if this project won't be in the Top 25 now. However I am truly happy to have been voting with all of the votes I had for this project. I trust that the directors of this project won't give on it and let it drop. Tattered Tiaras is a outstanding project and deserves all of the support it can get. My family and I would love to assist this project get off the ground even though we don't live anywhere near Bowmanville. Great job to everyone!

Unfortunately we're a little short to make it into the top 25! Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone for your countless votes and the overwhelming support of Tattered Tiaras. Even though we won't get the funds we need from Aviva, we are not giving up! I believe that we can still raise the money we need! If you would like to be a part of Tattered Tiaras in any way please send me an email to kmoran@tatteredtiaras.com. Thanks again for your support! We can change OUR world! Kim Moran

Sorry to be repeat comment but... This looks like a great idea and I hope and pray that your idea will come to full fruition. Hopefully all this publicity will help that to happen. Once again check out BUG... Beautiful Unique Girls... it's run by my buddy's wife in Winnipeg. I'm sure they would be thrilled to help your dream happen with advice etc. Ask for Malynda Zacharias and tell her Marshall's friend told you to call. Joe Dueck-Joe's Place Hungry For Hope
