Camp Hermosa is in the process of updating it's septic system and is in need of funds to cover the cost of the project. This project will make our facilities more usable for our camp community which affects many people.
Yearly, the camp changes the lives of over 500 campers and program staff. People from different faiths and backgrounds come and experience a Christian community.
Located a few km north of Goderich, Ontario on the shore of Lake Huron, Camp Hermosa offers a variety of weekend and week-long camp sessions, to enhance the Christian experience of children, youth, families, and adults.
Many children from social service agencies also come and have an opportunity to grow in the time they spend at camp. Camp Hermosa is a place where campers of all ages can be enriched and invigorated by beautiful surroundings, daily worship and Bible study, sports, swimming, crafts, and the fellowship of dozens of new friends.
The modernization of our septic system will be a proactive move towards being a facility that meets and exceeds today's environmental standards. It will provide a system safe for the camp community and protect the ground water in the area, which is beside beautiful Lake Huron. Eight aging septic systems will be replaced by one state-of-the-art system. The project has received provincial Ministry of the Environment approval, and is "shovel ready."
Camp Hermosa is a non-profit charitable organization that is dependent on camper fees and donations. Our fees are kept low in order to permit the largest number of campers to attend.
To finance this approximately $200,000 project, the Camp is actively fundraising, but we need your assistance.
The new system will be more economical to operate than the existing systems. Funds used to maintain the existing aging systems can be reallocated to fund programs for campers.
Camp Hermosa is a Christian camp ministry owned and operated by the Guelph, Middlesex-Lambton-Huron, and Owen Sound Associations of the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec. For more than 75 years, Camp Hermosa has sought to extend the life of the local church in the middle of nature's beauty. For more information, check out the camp website at www.camphermosa.org.

This camp has been doing great work with children for over 75 years. This project is just massive and it has been looming over the camp for a number of years. Many many meetings have taken place to figure out some way to raise the funds. The camp is trying, but that task is just huge. If the camp is full of campers, the current system will fill up. Suffice it to say that walking through the field on those occasions is not at all acceptable by todays health standards. If the septic system is not updated soon, it will undoubtedly be the end of the camp. Please please please help.

This is so important because it's a huge part of the basics that make camp run smoothly. (insert obvious joke here!) With this community fund help we'd be able to direct all our fundraising and focus to camper driven projects to make Camp Hermosa an even more amazing place to spend your summer.

Hermosa is special in the lives of so many people. Thirty years ago someone said, "God is alive and well at Camp Hermosa", and it is as true today as ever. Through dedicated staff and leaders, the Holy Spirit has done and continues to do amazing things. I never cease to marvel at His unfailing goodness.

Lets do this for the kids. Summer fun, place to run, laugh and shout. This is the only way to ensure many more years of fun and learning for children.

It's so difficult to fund raise for a septic system. Many people love the idea of being able to say "I contributed to the new multipurpose building" or the new cabins for campers or the Mountain Biking program the Bursary fund - but who wants to say "I contributed to the septic system?!" Difficult too to put a little brass plaque on it listing key donors! Yet, if we don't have a healthy septic system, there's not point in developing any of our other visions for this fabulous ministry to youth, as we can't continue to function unless it's fixed!

That's so true. There is nothing glamorous aboout this project, but it will keep this camp open for decades to come and it will make a huge difference in the lives of so many kids who needs some hope in life. My favorite quote from a camper is something to the effect of, "Camp Hermosa is like having heaven here on earth". I don't know if there are septic systems in heaven, but if a septic system can keep this place open for kids to be able to say stuff like that, then voting for a septic system is so worth it.
