An auto-mechanic garage for over 2 decades, this past year Rolly’s Garage has undergone quite the transformation. Becoming home to emerging and established artists of all sorts, Rolly’s Garage is an art venue free of pretentious vibes and chalk full of good ones. Rolly’s daughter {Robin Orbeta-Lacambra} and her partner in good vibes {Tiffany Naval} are dedicated to celebrating the arts in whatever form they come, making it accessible and proving to aspiring artists that it is possible to make a career out of their craft. Rolly’s has hosted such a wide array of creative events, ranging from art exhibitions to plays and crazy parties, giving artists of all kinds a safe space to realize their dreams, adding to the diverse cultural fabric of Toronto.
Rolly’s aim is to continue providing affordable space to help artists launch their careers as professional artists and encourage their professional development. In addition to wallspace, performance and studio space, Rolly’s wishes to offer floor space for fashion arts and furniture design, literally accommodating all types of artistic expressions.
Located on Ossington Avenue, Toronto’s trendiest street, the exposure offered to artists is insurmountable. However, due to unfortunate circumstances, Rolly’s had to close its giant garage door until enough money is raised for renovations. It will take an estimated $100 000 for us to legally re-open Rolly's. If Rolly’s Garage is granted funding, the money will be used for the necessary renovations and building upkeep.
Once Rolly’s is up and running again, inspired by the success of our Night Markets, we wish to open a Gallery Boutique section of the garage. Our night markets featured different local vendors selling their wares and performances throughout the evening. This nighttime gallery boutique will be open after conventional store hours and give artists the opportunity to sell their creations, stimulating more production. It’ll also feature occasional musical performances, film screenings, readings and anything else that is progressive, beautiful and awesome!
This is where you come in. Please vote for Rolly’s Garage so that we can continue with our project of overcoming the “starving artist” stereotype and spreading the love of all things creative.

not sure if making money off artists is actually empowering artists?

As one of the artists and a supporter of many of the others I can fully say that the community that Rolly's empowers is most certainly benefiting the artists first and the venue second. Perfect location and space, it is ripe to be awarded the Aviva Fund, and I strongly encourage the spreading of the word.

Money is hardly being made OFF of the artists, but rather, FOR the artists. Even though it is yet to be registered as one, Rolly's has been operating like a non-profit, making only enough money to keep the space. Because of the ideal location, artists who have exhibited at Rolly's have not only had the luxury of having well attended openings/gallery hours, but have also sold many of their pieces or have even been picked up by local and trendy stores to sell their wares. Certainly the project of Rolly's Garage could technically be continued elsewhere, in a building that is already up to code, yada yada. But then it's no longer ROLLY's garage, just another art space. Rolly's has a lot of history. It has been owned by a Filipino entrepreneur for over 2 decades - Filipinos are the third largest demographic, but business and property owners are hardly indicative of that statistic. Now it is run by his daughter, who wishes to continue his legacy, and her partner. The garage h

Before i went to rolly's i had no shoes and no feet. Then my feet grew, I fell in love and everything came together. Still no shoes. But hey, I can't be greedy. It's funny how just one place can make so much magic happen. If we lose rolly's, not only will i lose my feet, but i will lose the ability to love again. no honestly it's an awesome place for weirdos like myself to express myself and not be chained in an insane asylum or in the shackles i call my inner thoughts. maynards

Rolly's Garage holds a piece of Toronto's HEART. I do not believe that Rolly's was created for the money. I believe that It was created to spread the words & the love for the arts & culture around the city. It IS a great gateway for business, however.. Its foundation was built more on showcasing what artists in Toronto have to offer. As an artist and contributor to Rolly's, I feel that the space has definitely helped push me forward within my field, and will continue to do so if kept open. It is a great place for networking, spending the day out with some friends, or showcasing some of the many hidden talents in Toronto. Please look into some of the events that Rolly's has held, and I'm sure you will find a mix of new and exciting things! Now think of what else could be happening if the people are able to continue.. Keep Rolly's alive, and you help keep Toronto alive.

Rolly's Garage is one of the most unique and functional art/performance/studio/film/lecture/social/studio spaces in the city of Toronto. It has been a hub for creative minds and energies since its metamorphosis last fall. It would be an absolute shame to see it fade away. Spread the word and the love!

believe it or not, my family used to go to Rolly's garage for auto repair from the 80s onwards - that is how long I've been going to Rolly's! I commend Rolly's daughter for transforming a family business space into a totally different use as a venue and exhibition space for various art forms. With this fund, Rolly's could become a fulll-fledged art space, not to mention a great versatile venue for all sorts of community related events and gatherings. I look forward to some great things happening for Rolly's after they win this Funding!!!

"My hope is that the lovers of this city will unite and help make Toronto cooler than yesterday... and that means keeping places like Rolly's alive and well! A creative space, run by two young Filipino women with big hearts and bigger dreams for arts and culture, on immigrant-family owned property - who doesn't want to see that survive? Rolly's is like the poster child for positive social progress & development. Let's get with it." - Robin aka Rolly's Daughter Thanks for all the support guys! Keep it coming.

Rolly's is no longer a hospital for cars, it's a hub of creativity and inspiration, but most importantly, it provides opportunities. I've attended all types of events with all kinds of crowds at Rolly's. The teamsofierce continuum is a force of love who's shoulders are open for anyone to stand on. But you don't have to believe me, I invite any curious stranger to look for themselves, the team will convince you on their own. Good luck!

I didn't know about Rolly's Garage until this Campaign so in my eyes the Aviva Community Fund has been successful because so many more people know about Rollys. Our son is a recovering addict who is also a tattoo artist. First and foremost he is an artist and struggles with where to "plug in" where people get him, his craft is embraced and appreciated and not stigmatized...at Rolly's he can hone his craft and do what he loves, this is brilliant. Rolly's appears to be SPOT ON. Congrats to the folks behind Rolly's and good luck. I am voting for you every day. I hope that our son has the opportunity to find his way to Rollys because his art truly saved his life...

Rollys means so much to me on so many levels; Rolly is the people that I love, the great times I've shared with them, the great opportunities I've recieved to be able to promote the art I believe in but most of all Rolly's to me is a way for all of us to do things on our own terms and to be progressive in the way we apporach art in our community. I owe so much to Rolly's and to Robin and I'm totally dedicated to this cause and to doing whatever it takes to keep Rollys going.

Last holiday season we had our CONTRA Holiday issue launch and party there. They've also had countless Art Exhibits and Musicians perform to keep our arts community alive! FLARE Magazine even loves Rolly's Garage. I picked up the December Issue with Lady GaGa on the cover today. Flip to Page 142 - "Bright Young Things" Story shot by Max Abadian. Also, featuring cameos by Fritz Hedler & The Phantoms. See? Industry love and indie love. ROLLY'S makes the world go round & spreads love!
