Bipolar disease. It's a slow and silent killer. It compromises a sufferer's well being, relationships and in many cases, life itself. Often mistaken for the more serious "schizophrenia", it's the secret medical disorder that nobody wants to talk about. Those who want to know more don't know what questions to ask. Those who suffer from it rarely know how to respond to those that ask.
Over the past year we have been performing a powerful show, in 7 cities, that addresses the issue of bipolar disorder. We are committed in helping to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness and provide support and awareness for those in need. We have developed a performance piece that is successfully accomplishing these things every time we perform.
We would like to be able to present our show at Windsor's Historic Capitol Theatre for tour groups to attend on a regular basis as well as being able to bring the show to the many scholastic institutions in the Windsor/Essex County area. Ideally, because the show is minimalist in style and because touring it is so easy and economical, we would love to take it across Ontario and even Canada as bipolar disorder knows no boundaries and people everywhere are affected in some capacity.
Approximately half the suicides reported can be attributed to bipolar disorder & 90% of all suicides are due to mental illness. Every 40 seconds someone who is loved commits suicide. The statistics are staggering as well as alarming.
We would be very grateful for consideration for an opportunity to be an Aviva Community Fund recipient. The money would be used to pay for venue rental (insurance fees & general renting costs), advertising, travel and accommodation (if necessary), booking fees, programs and posters. Thank you for taking the time to read all about us. For more information and testimonials please visit our official Type 2 website below.
Sincerely, Michelle J. Mainwaring & Jason Gale, respectfully

View Magazine TYPE 2 – A TRAGIC COMEDY – (Michelle J. Mainwaring / Jason Gale) One of the most honest and intense stories in this year’s Fringe is the all-encompassing Type 2. With an absolutely brilliant performance by Windsor’s Michelle J. Mainwaring and a hauntingly perfect script, this production is not to be missed. (JD)

ONTARIO ARTS REVIEW BY DANNY GAISIN …it certainly is the most important play of (Hamilton) Fringe. The play is written by, & co-stars Jason Gale whose personal knowledge of Bi-polar manic depression bestows an added sense of truth to this work. Gale portrays Michael who caringly supports a wife suffering from the illness. Michelle Mainwaring imparts such realism to every symptomatic facet of the mental disease that one forgets this is but a stage performance. Her Jasmine character is a stand-up comedienne so the stress of ‘Show Biz’ adds to the pressure cooker. … The realism of rationalizations; excuses, and roller coaster mood -swings will make audience members begin to personally wonder “Am I type 1 or Type 2?” This is a must-see production!

With the funding we have requested we could potentially reach thousands and thousands of people in need. It could cover performances in all of our high schools, university, college, CMHA and Brentwood as well as affording us the opportunity to travel to other local communities. Thanks for taking the time to read all about us. Michelle

My wife and I have both seen this play, and with each of us having family members with bi-polar disorders, we were amazed by the realism of the struggles portrayed by the wonderful cast. If more people could be be witness to this production, I am positive most, if not all of the stigma attached to sufferers would be removed.

Thank you ladies...you are all so sweet. This whole labour of love could not be possible or have helped so many people if it wasn't for the amazing courage Jason Gale has shown in putting his incredible heart out there for everyone to see. I once had a lady tell me after a show that she could see my soul on the stage and I had to thank her but tell her that it wasn't my soul...it was Jason's heart. He is the genius that got this powerful ball rolling. I am honoured to be a part of it. Please vote every day and encourage your loved ones to as well. It would be a great story to come out of Windsor! Peace brothers and sisters....and THANK YOU!

I would like to see the show. I am glad that there are people out there who have the courage to stand up and talk about the illness and the difficulties living with it. I hope the story comes out so people can see what it is like to live through the ilness and we can get more support, rather than stigma. Thanks for doing it.

I’m also type 2 and I’m so glad that I had the chance to see the play. I did laugh so hard at some parts of the play because I know that I have done that I have walked in her shoes.( shopping) But it’s the when the play has ended that has truly stuck in my head and made me think and I thank you. I never saw the pain that I would leave my family in, only what I was feeling at that moment. Thank you for open my eyes. Thank you so much for doing the play, both you and Jason "Rock". With All my love and Support. Kat

Dear Kat...you are amazing! Thank you for traveling from Toronto...and sharing here and after our performance. I'll never forget your laughter and honest emotions. That you took the time to not only vote but to share your feelings here....is a tremendous thing! It is for the reasons you wrote about and shared with us that we are pushing so hard for funding! We want everyone to be able to take something from us...we have a lot to give....we just need the opportunities to do so! My warmest thanks to you! xo Michelle

Additional Comments: · This is the kind of production that more people need to see. I have been taking medication for my Type II Bipolar Disorder for two straight years now. Before I stopped my medication without consulting my doctor or loved ones and what followed was one of my worst depressions. I never want to go down that road again. Thank you for making me feel not so alone in my daily battle. Even while being medicated there are symptoms to deal with. Thank you to everyone involved in this production. I believe, it is evident that the performances had a tremendous impact on audience members and met our goals of raising awareness of mental illness issues in the community and begin to dispel the stigma associated with mental illness. Thank you to all involved, (performers, cast, crew, sponsors, hosts) for your part in bringing this impactful production to the Brock/Niagara community. TESTIMONIALS From the O.P.A. Ontario Psychological Association “Amazing! Bravo! Unsanitized realistic portrayal of the pain and the heartbreak of living with this illness or loving someone who has it.” Dr. Joyce Isbitsky, Sault Ste. Marie “Very moved by both performances. Well acted with a lot of heart. Absolutely would recommend, it was an extremely realistic portrayal of what bi-polar is like- not just for the person suffering but the family as well.” Dr. C. Please, if you care about helping spread understanding about mental illness, take the time to vote DAILY. WE NEED YOUR HELP. We are a new and very small organization, so we have limited resourses to help us spread the word. Our track record speaks for itself, we've been touring this show for a year, with great response from patients and professionals. Sadly, unlike other organizations, we are not funded, and have not had a chance to really make the differance we know we can make. This is an on going tour, not just a one day event like others posted. We also haven't had an opportunity to enjoy funding in the past like others who have posted ideas. GIVE US OUR CHANCE, check our site and see what we can do together. http://www.type2bipolarshow.com/ Thanks Jay

I have never seen two people more committed to making a difference. Michelle and Jason give so much of themselves and the audience reactions from all the shows I've seen has been overwhelming. After loosing my son to mental health issues, I am advocating for positive change in corrections, and for youth. So when I saw the play advertised for Hamilton Fringe...I made sure I got there from Kitchener to see it!!! Brought a flood of memorial emotion back to me. And on the other hand, I felt not alone....this is what I hope to promote. A kinder arena for family, friends or anyone you meet...to just talk about the struggles. Lets keep working together Michelle.......and you must come to Kitchener-Waterloo!!! hugs, Karyn Graham

Dear Karyn, It was wonderful meeting you in Hamilton and getting to chat this last time. It's amazing how two strangers can connect so easily and share so openly. This type of event really allows for that. I think you are a very special person, woman, mother and friend. We were thrilled that you journied from Kitchener to see our show. One way or another we'll get to Kitchener to be a part of your incredible efforts regarding these important issues. Nobody knows until they know...it's so very complex. The high, high statistics of bipolar suicide needs to be be eliminated...this show is not the be all end all answer but it is part of an intricate necessity for wellness, healing, de-stigmatization, awareness, self realization and so much more. It's all of us working together that will make an impact ~ come on board...there's plenty of room for everyone! If you build it...they will come! Everyday we need everyone who reads this to Vote...continue voting for the next 6 days...

This piece of theate art can make a positive difference in countless lives - I saw Type 2 in its first run at the Windsor International Fringe Festival and fervently hope it can be rolled out in many more venues for the benefit of many more people. I have been to this play and it opened my eyes to the reason for a lot of things done in my world.I am not a doctor, and to be able to see the way the bipolar people's life unfolds was very intereesting. I am so happy that the play has been accepted as a learning tool and I hope that they receive any funding available to continue on with their teaching mission. You all are incredible for helping us, thank you so much. Thought I would post a couple of comments from audiences who wanted to be part of our testimonials (these and more available on our official website www.type2bipolarhsow.com ) ** “Moving, provocative and candid. Would recommend because it was a vivid and touching narrative of the pain and love for families and loved ones.”

“Very moved by both performances. Well acted with a lot of heart. Absolutely would recommend, it was an extremely realistic portrayal of what bi-polar is like- not just for the person suffering but the family as well.” Dr. C. Hartrige

An amazing, important piece with incredibly talented actors. This show is both so heartfelt and at the same time, informative...this funding would go a long way to promoting the kind of awareness that is so desperately needed about bipolar disorder. This show needs to go around the world because the world needs this show!

Thanks everyone!! Sheri, loved the end of your comment...that's a powerful statement...and much appreciated....Carmen, really not sure about how many votes needed...my guess is...a lot ....looking at other votes on other ideas (great causes too...so many of them ). I think we were in the top 50 - something..54th I believe. As far as Toronto, we were there once performing for the OPA convention but have been really wanting to do a weekend run or something of the like. Toronto is definitely at the top of our list for 'next stops'. It's been a challenge trying to round up votes but we remain hopeful and confident in what we are trying to accomplish. Thanks for your good wishes. If you get a chance to stop by our website please join our new members section. We are currently trying to develop a forum where people can share and reach out if they like. There are those who would deny and suffer this disorder rather than reveal due to societal stigma and disenfranchisement on many basic levels - work, support, friendship, inclusion. This is why this initiative is so important, it will inform the uninformed, engage support and understanding and send out lifelines to hidden sufferers. I continue to vote, for compassion, understanding and support.

When I saw the show, I balled! I think all of us can relate to some degree to the ups and downs of life, but this play really portrays the extremes of Bi-polar disorder in such a way that the audience can't help but come away with a clearer understanding of this horrible illness. It's something that needs to be seen by everyone!

bi2 I was referred here by Ed's Blog; a very good idea sending the message out that way. I must watch this play soon, what a wonderful concept! I am Type 2 myself. A friend and I are on a similar mission; we are presenting public education seminars in Ontario on 'Living with Bipolar Disorder'. It's been a slow start, but change can be slow (unless you are bipolar, of course). Our focus is on awareness and relationship building. And believe me, I KNOW STIGMA!! I will support you in any way I can.

i've seen the show once and i thought it was brilliant !!it was funny, but in parts really makes you have to think. Everyone who has bipolar should REALLY see this show not for the fact they have bipolar but for the fact that this play can really show them the light. The wrighting is brilliant he shows you how its about bipolar then he adds in a little kick of comedy. By all means I would give this play 5 out of 5 stars cause any play that can make me laugh and cry wins.

Hi, If you are reading this would you mind just stopping for a second and think "who can I call to tell about this...who might really support this?'. If you could give them a call and say "I'm going to send you an email with a link to vote for this really cool project in this contest through Aviva..." it would be just the thing that could help these good folks. Something that can make a stranger stop someone in the street and start to share their own story then literally start to weep with gratitude because you understood them...it's like nothing I've ever seen. This happened the first time Type 2 was performed in Windsor's first ever International Fringe Festival. A young lady eating french fries saw Michelle after seeing the show two days prior. She had been recently diagnosed and was having a tough time of it. She was so grateful that somebody understood her. The long term effects from this show are lingering. I've been working with Michelle and Jason almost since the beginning. I was asked to be their Stage Manager when their original SM was dragged away to be the technical director for the entire Windsor Fringe Festival. She did a wonderful job in that capacity and I was happy to take her place working with Jason and Michelle. I was amazed by the sheer effect this show has had on those who suffer from the illness as well as their friends and family. I have heard and seen countless comments from people who have seen the show and their reactions always blew me away. This show has opened the eyes of so many to the illness, increasing their awareness and understanding of Bipolar as well as letting those who suffer from it know that they do not suffer alone and that they have friends out there. Thanks to everyone who has voted so far and thanks to Michelle getting us set up here and to Jason for writing this wonderful show. I'm crossing my fingers and praying for our success here.

When deciding which category to enter this contest in, I looked at all the category headings and realized we fit into a lot of them. I chose 'Stimulate Culture' because today's youth and general audience can be inspired by performances that makes an impact and by touring it to different locations shows it can take place anywhere. A minimalist show like ours (the set is two small tables, four chairs, a typewriter, coat rack and a few other small items) stimulates the audience mind to fill in the blanks and allows them better to concentrate on the dialogue and action on stage. We are promoting well being, we improve education about a long misunderstood illness, and by wanting to house our show at Windsor's historical Capitol theatre would help to rejuvenate the downtown neighbourhood.. I guess the only category we don't fall into is the 'Preserve the Environment' which our family practices on a daily basis to the best of our ability. Thank you to all the voters who showed their fait

I've been working with this show for about a year. In that time I have seen it make a huge impact on the people who have seen it. Here are a few comments from our website. Melody "Amazing! Bravo! Unsanitized realistic portrayal of the pain and the heartbreak of living with this illness or loving someone who has it." Dr. Joyce Isbitsky, Sault Ste. Marie "The play brings to life the characteristic behaviors and conditions associated with Bipolar Disorder, and how the disorder affects the patient's personal and professional life as well as the lives of his or her significant others." Dr. Lynn Perreault , Windsor "Superbly acted, stunningly realistic, at times too painful and intense to watch. I would recommend because of the good information and it really shows the impact on loves ones." D. E. Farels For more testimonials visit www.type2bipolarshow.com/

This is it, the sun is setting and time is coming to a close. My Valkyrie, bloodied and exhausted from her battle looks to the sky and prays for the strength to finish. We all need to be that strength, to support Michelle. There is no tomorrow. I've watched her tireless efforts and commitment to help people who she will never know ending stigma on an illness she doesn't have. She is seeking funding with this contest to tour our show "Type 2" to cities that want to see the show. We have been asked to bring it all over the world, literally, but it is not financially possible for us to do that. A grant could make this possible. She is determined to spread our message to all of those who need it. In her performances, I've wept silently backstage as I listen to her give voice to my illness and speak for all of us who are tired of hiding in the shadows. This is our fight too so please if you can encourage anyone to vote, do it now. This show needs to tour. Send my Valkyrie back to Valhalla

Thanks again everyone! Thanks for following us into round 2. Round 1 was grueling but we did very well considering we had a late start to the competition. I also wanted to add, for any Windsorites reading this, that to stimulate culture also means to stimulate the economy. If we are fortunate enough to receive this funding we will be bringing in tour buses into the community and can partner with other groups to promote downtown eateries, arts groups etc. The possibilities are endless when you have the means to make dreams into a reality. Cash strapped communities would be able to benefit their folks by bringing our important message to them without any costs. In bad economic times, depression can be an even more frightening monster. Thanks everyone...keep voting...keep sharing! We appreciate you!

Thank you dear voters. We need a village to stand beside us now. If our message can get out there, we know it can heal relationships, give hope and so much more. One lady came up to me after a show and said "My son took his life a year ago, I wish he could have seen this, it may have saved his life." Can you imagine hearing that....we're fighting for a very important reason. God Bless and thank you all for your efforts! Where ever we place in this crazy race your kindness will come back to you. Being a psychologist I would highly recommend this production. It aides in bringing textbook narrative to life in a clear, concise way as well as being of extreme benefit to those living with bipolar disorder and their loved ones. Bravo!

I can't help but think about a lovely young woman named Renee, who took her own life as a result of this horrific disorder, that she struggled with for a number of years. I truly believe that if people talked about Bipolar Disease, that it would take the stigma away from it and maybe Reneee would have been better able to cope. I know that I would have brought her to the Capitol Theatre to see how Michelle and Jay have put a different twist on the disease. They need to be heard and we need to talk about it May the Capitol Theatre Angel be with you. Thank You Michelle and Jay.

I have a friend who suffers and this is such an important cause. The stigma is huge because no one can see the "illness", only the ramifications of it. Make a difference and continue to promote this.

All of your comments are so appreciated. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Renee, so very sad, so tragic and difficult...we hear so many stories like this.” I wish...if only...you made me see what my family would go through...and so on." Nobody else should end his or her life from this illness; it's just too much! My heart goes out to all the families and friends of loved ones lost due to this invisible killer. I pray and hope that somehow we reach more people, somehow we can get people to help us make this possible. Like I said before...this show IS NOT the answer to the problem...it is a forum in which people who feel isolated in their own mind and fears, sorrows and sadness can share, feel understood, seek treatment, repair relationships and much more. Now, I ask that if you are reading this...think who can you send the link to? We will continue to tour this show no matter the outcome of this contest. This opportunity could make that mission a reality for more people than we

We are coming closer to the wire again. New voters to this page...please know you have my utmost gratitude. All of you faithful daily voters, again, we could not be here with out you ~ Thank you ~ I love you all so much for helping us. Remember, every family member and child, with a parent's permission may cast a vote. We will not give up hope, we will reach out and hope that there is indeed a hand to grasp on the other side. In 25 years of performing, never has my work meant so much. I believe in this with all of my heart. It is a difficult show to perform, emotionally and can be at times difficult to watch if it is hitting home to some, but...it is worth it. To live this life and know you touched somebody...there is nothing greater. As artists we are bound to give everything in our soul to you. The paycheck is usually small but the reward ~ Enormous! Again, from my keyboard to your heart ~ THANK YOU!

Dear Debelan, Thank you for your comment and your daily vote. I am truly saddened to hear about your son, as a mother I can not begin to imagine what you must have gone through...but please know that there is a heart here that is reaching out to you and aching for you too. Words can not express the emotions I feel about your son and the many, many, many others that have gone through what you and your son and your family have been through. This show may be hard for you to watch (we have had people tell us that before but have ultimately thanked us for our work because the underlying message is so strong and that is what they take from it). We are doing this because we truly care, because Jason, the author, has been in that 'pit'. I just wish we could muster an army of voters to make this happen because it is for you and ultimately everyone. Sincerely, Michelle

As a fellow soldier in the fight to abolish the stigma attached to mental illness I applaud Michelle Wainwright and everyone involved in this show. Most have no idea how incredibly courageous it is to go out and perform a comedy based on this subject matter and still have a smile on your face at the end of the show, go off-stage for a cry only to do again the next time. Bravo!!!! Suicide and mental illness is not someone else's problem anymore. One or the other or both will affect someone you know. According to the world wide stats every 40 seconds someone will commit suicide with 90% of those cases stemming from mental illness. Does this shock you? Well it should! Helping to support this cause will not harm you but may save a life. Michelle's aim, as it is mine, is to bring the stigma of suicide out into the open to educate, discuss, encourage, break down barriers, make those who make the big decisions concerning health care SEE and CHANGE the current turnstile approach to

I am typing through tears, gratitude and frustration. Jason and I want to thank each of you for voting, sharing and commenting here. We are a team of two trying to compete with a lot of ideas from large cities and groups. For Jason and I the frustrating thing is having a proven tool, a year long journey, a lot of investment and we find ourselves not being able to do the work we know we are meant to do. Having said all that...we remain hopeful and believe in miracles and we are not quitters. The cards will fall as they may...we will be here fighting for the cause and here for anyone who wants to share with us. I want to thank my dear dramaman who is always there when I need him...I love you! Tracey Rose posted at 10:49 and was the post that brought me to tears. Tracey is working on a very important project and can be found on Facebook under ""40 Seconds" - Burying the Stigma on Suicide. A feature documentary ~ Please look her up and join. Share & Care xo

I am so proud of my wife. Her determination is incredible. I have watched her sit for hours at the computer emailing and posting for support. Doing her other shows and asking her audience to vote, making phone call after phone call to get support. Each vote hard earned. To see some other groups using multiple email addresses and have their number of votes in the three and four thousands has been frustrating for her but she is so committed to this, she won't give up. If the world could see my wife in action they would know what an amazing woman she is. I really hope that happens. Keep voting!

No matter how frustrating things are, no matter if funding is received, we all believe in this project. It will carry on with, or without the help of Aviva. I just thank the good people at Aviva for having this competition and thank you Michelle for finding out about it. I have seen so many people vote for Type 2 and have read all the comments and have seen the reactions from the audiences. We are helping people and we will continue to do so. What struck me the most about our attempt here is that people who have not even seen the show, or even knew about it, now do know about it. Even if we are unable to move forward in the competition it has allowed us to reach out to more people. Thanks again to you Michelle, Glen and of course Jason. Thank you to all of the voters as well. Keep the hope alive. Signed: Your friendly neighbourhood Stage Manager.

We are now nearly at the end of this round and regardless of any funding we were hoping to get, I want to thank everyone starting with Michelle and on to the last voter we get that you all made this a victory. Thank you for showing so much support in bringing to light an illness that many would rather leave in the dark. Thank you for being the champions of those who don't dare speak for themselves for fear off small minds and lack of education on this and many other disorders. Michelle and I have seen a father reunite with his son after seeing this show, we've seen countless souls seek treatment as a direct result of the impact the show had on them, we've seen those who are bipolar or love someone who is find a greater understanding of themselves and what they go through and not feel so alone. We will continue our uphill battle with our limited resources a little easier because now we know there is an army behind us. With thanks Jason G

Here's the kicker, for lack of a better phrase...I can't help but go back to Tracey's post of "Every 40 Seconds...a person who is loved will commit suicide". Why aren't more people hearing and seeing this. It boggles my mind...I can't just go on about my day pretending I don't know this...There are many tragedies that take place in a day...many serious causes to fight for (thank you to all those who care for humanity)...but for me, that is a statistic that has left me more than shocked. It has made me come to this page every night for the past few, difficult weeks and hope and vote and post and plead our mission. Those voting daily are our heroes...our beautiful allies. You stopped to care and that is tremendous...you see and support it. Let's give it everything we've got and then some I guess...nothing ventured...nothing gained. There is a lot to gain from this...a lot, a lot, a lot! I salute you for your vote. EVERY 40 SECONDS....

Great turnout today so far everyone ~ Thank you! Just to give a little update. As an incentive to keep voting and encouraging Windsor/Essex County residents to get on board. We are offering two G.C's of a combined total of $250 for people because we not only want your support, we want to give something back for all your time and effort. If you are on Facebook for details~ Check out my profile or join "I'm voting Type 2 because stigma and suicide need to end" to win two practical jokes ~ they are beyond funny! We will draw one on Thursday and one on Friday of this week. Keep voting and good luck to all of you fine people. : )

If you want to see the type of help this show is giving to those who need it read some recent posts on www.type2bipolarshow.com/ on the "Forum" page under "share you're experiences". These are real people who are suffering.

Thanks Bea and all of you generous souls. I read the new posts on the website and loved Jay's comments afterward. The forum is really getting underway with people starting to join the website and our little 'family' online. What a great testament to Jason's courage...inspiring others to find their own courage and have a voice on 'our' site. The website has had hits from all over our planet. I encourage you to visit our official site and have a look around, we're very proud of it. Jason has created so much more than 'just a play'. To quote the beloved John Lennon "I hope one day you will join us... ". Peace brothers and sisters and thank you to everyone here and our members on Facebook as well as the Type2 site. One final thank you tonight...to Jason, the author, my co-star, my friend. Thank you for helping me to see another world that I didn't know existed but now through our journey together, I not only know about, but also care very deeply about.

p.s. I also need to thank Jay for writing the role of a lifetime..a role that challenges me to keep digging deeper within myself and pushes me to find more honesty in my performance by the dialogue that was masterfully crafted. Jason handed me his heart when he wrote Type 2, I know how carefully I must present it to the audience in order to keep it alive and gently place it back in its rightful home. This beautiful gift is for the world to see ~ please handle with care. xo

Hi - vote #334. I went to the website and read the two new posts in your forums and I have to tell you, they were very eye opening. I had no idea that people were tormented to the extent that I read about. This has given me a new understanding into this illness and I am not only a supporter I am now an advocate in the fight to reduce the stigma. Well done Jason Gale, you are a true humanitarian and I applaud your efforts and Michelle's.

You know, I would have never given mental illness/bipolar disorder another thought until I saw this production. I now have a more clear understanding of what people have to go through, not just the ones who have the disorder but what their families have to go through too. This project is worthy just on the awareness it creates alone, not to mention the strong message it delivers to those suffering....it is so much more than a stage production! The youth in our community and those across Canada need to be receiving information like this in this art form as it will resonate more than just some figure head talking about it or reading it in a book. Visually stimulating through art like this stimulates more than just culture...it stimulates the mind. This is too important not to be funded.

For Debelan, Michelle and Jay would happily go wherever there was a request if they had the sponsors to do so. I'm just voting... and thought I'd add my two cents worth. I'm so proud of my friend Michelle who puts her heart and soul into this incredibly worthy cause. Mental health issues are slowly being addressed now, but there is still so much fear surrounding the subject. Thanks Michelle and Jason for your part in getting this out there and accessible to us in a real, close-to-home way that touches us more than a fundraiser or commercial ever could.

Thanks everyone, I put out the call and you answered. That warms my heart! I also wanted to say that bipolar disorder can be a crippling illness, but there are many success stories. The author Jason Gale is one of them. Through treatment and meds he has been living a very productive life and his goal is to help others see that it is possible, with the right meds, treatment, support and so on. Our show delivers all of this and so much more. This powerful production educates and enlightens better than any text book or lecture. It engages everyone and it hits home hard. People don't forget what they have seen on the stage, it sticks with them like glue. We want to be that glue that binds the world together with a greater understanding and knowledge and message of hope. Thanks again to our supporters...we need more and we won't give up no matter what!

You and Jason are lifes "glue" in bringing awareness.......and your understanding is paramount to others success with bipolar disorder. As a mother who saw this behavior many, many times over Trevors 26 years, I miss him everyday! The memories that help me are of his wonderful giving heart which showed many he had such potential to give back to others. Even the jail guards, court personel, and co-offenders, as told to me thru his lawyer...cried when they heard of his death. I also visited his methadone clinic/doctor in Brantford to tell them not to expect him anymore. They closed the doors and shared tears with me. Talking about "his bright blue eyes, and cheery manner, most of the time"....they saw his human side. It is people like this I will be inviting to my Mayday Event next year....to share stories of their experience...you will love to meet them! It is because I know the importance of your message that I applaud your initiative and gritty reality of your show...Bravo!

My friend Sondra just posted this on my Facebook wall and I couldn't wait to post it here.....It is my new favourite quote....I absolutely love it!!!....."It is for us to pray not for tasks equal to our powers, but for powers equal to our tasks, to go forward with a great desire forever beating at the door of our hearts as we travel toward our distant goal." ~ Helen Keller

Fond another Helen Keller quote that is apropos she was an inspiration and truly, in every sense of the word, amazing!...."Be of good cheer. Do not think of today's failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost." ~ Helen Keller

I have seen this play many times. I have also helped with the play. I'm still in shock over how many people have come up to Jay and Michelle after the show and talked to them on how much they were effected by the play. The stories that we have heard would bring tears to any one eyes. This play needs to go on so that they can help many more people who suffer from this illness.

My dear friend, I know how hard you worked to get the votes here, I hope you see 2000 for your efforts. You have fought a good, honest battle. You should be very proud of yourself....and you definitely deserve one of the wild card spots. I see your posts everywhere and when I googled Aviva and your show name...man, you have dominated the first 4-5 pages and can be seen at least once up to the 21 (It could be more but I had to stop sometime...lol). I hope that all your hard work will be 'buzz worthy' enough! God Bless you and this show and the important work you are doing! You are an amazing person and friend. Love you...Sher.

My final thank you to everyone supporting us here, we are very grateful. The comments you took the time to write and share with us will never be forgotten. On behalf of Jason and myself and the crew of Type 2...may the stigma attached to mental illness be just a memory and may those frightening statistics of those who end their lives never be seen again. Thank you, from our hearts to yours.

On to round 3. Maybe after you have won this round Michelle we can fight the good fight for my documentary about suicide and mental illness as one is rarely without the other. It takes a little funding to start the ball rolling. I appreciate what you are doing more than you know. As a person who wants to get a film made to bring attention to this disease and what can happen due to it and having a tough time with the path to funding. It is so hard, as you can all see, to get funding for something of this nature. The carpets are rolled out for so many other causes but not enough for mental illness and suicide. This makes me more angry than sad to be honest. When I was in the USA recently they had a commercial regarding mental illness with Glenn Close yet they only showed this commercial after midnight, why? This half-way business is not going to cut it anymore. The sad thing to me is that mental illness keeps the sufferer and their families in the closet about what is happening

to them. They are afraid of the stigma. We need to help them to feel comfortable enough to come out and join us in the fight. There is a way and we must find it and I believe we will! Carry on my brave soldiers and all my love and support. Tracey Rose - "40 Seconds" - Burying the Stigma on Suicide.

Awww...Tracey, round 3 is over and done and we didn't make it. We managed 2051 votes this time, our highest number. I thought we had a good chance at the 'buzz worthy' spot. If you google our link...well...you should google our link...I think we were very prominent on the web with Aviva's name beside us. There are some grants we will try and apply for because we're with you on the critical need for this type of awareness. It's very hard to get people to stand up and take notice of what we are doing and honestly, our show is a case of seeing is believing and then, people are blown away by all it contains. We're going to do our best with hopes of interest on a grand scale. This contest did create awareness and we are very thankful to those that did support us with their votes and a chance to get the word out a little bit more.

Your play was a great community link here in Windsor for discussion of the extremes of emotion that take a lot of people into an area of despair in their lives. Like the Buddha discovering the tragic aspect of human existence and growing and becoming wise from this knowledge, the play educates and is a good reference for people to unlock the stigma of this area of social and mental stress. Good luck with this project and I hope the funding gets through to really put Jason's play more on the map!
