reBOOT LEARNING CENTRES

reBOOT Canada wants to build 50 computer centres.

Facts

Without e-mail and the world wide web, completing the high school curriculum is now virtually impossible.

In some communities, before Internet access and online learning, the high school graduation rate was as low as 15%; in the same communities, after computer technology was introduced, the graduation rate rose to 55%.

Michael Kosic, 18, a reBOOT co-op student, says, "I've seen first-hand how a computer can open up a kid's life. My friend was leaning towards hustling drugs. He got a computer and started focusing on creating music instead. I've seen the other side, too, where a kid doesn't have a computer and can't do research for homework or can't print out their assignment, so they give up."

In October 2009, the unemployment rate in Canada was 8.4%. Tens of thousands of Canadians, particularly those in manufacturing, need to retrain and upgrade their computer skills in order to find jobs and function in an increasingly information-driven society.

Education equals dignity.

Solution

Create 50 reBOOT Learning Centres in partnership with community centres and schools across Canada.

Learners can achieve educational objectives with networked computers in a fun and supervised environment where they can interact with peers and mentors. Centres will be provided with laser printers, webcams, internet access and a computer training program.

This national program will enrich the lives of up to 50,000 Canadian youths and 15,000 adults by providing technology. The centres will be installed in underserved areas most affected by the recession.

We are expert at building computer centres and are asking for $5,000 per centre for a total of $250,000.

This is an environmental and educational endeavour as the centres will be built from donated equipment refurbished by volunteers and co-op students.

Canada`s Leading Green-Tech Charity

reBOOT Canada is a national charity which provides computer hardware, training and service to charities, non-profit organizations and individuals with limited access to technology. reBOOT receives no government funding.

Since 1995, we have diverted over 5,000 tonnes of electronic waste from landfill and have distributed over 100,000 pieces of equipment to more than 7,000 clients and non-profit organizations.

reBOOT Locations: reBOOT Canada (Toronto), reBOOT New Brunswick, reBOOT Nova Scotia, reBOOT Peterborough, reBOOT Vancouver, reCONNECT Montreal.
