reBOOT LEARNING CENTRES
reBOOT Canada wants to build 50 computer centres.
Facts
Without e-mail and the world wide web, completing the high school curriculum is now virtually impossible.
In some communities, before Internet access and online learning, the high school graduation rate was as low as 15%; in the same communities, after computer technology was introduced, the graduation rate rose to 55%.
Michael Kosic, 18, a reBOOT co-op student, says, "I've seen first-hand how a computer can open up a kid's life. My friend was leaning towards hustling drugs. He got a computer and started focusing on creating music instead. I've seen the other side, too, where a kid doesn't have a computer and can't do research for homework or can't print out their assignment, so they give up."
In October 2009, the unemployment rate in Canada was 8.4%. Tens of thousands of Canadians, particularly those in manufacturing, need to retrain and upgrade their computer skills in order to find jobs and function in an increasingly information-driven society.
Education equals dignity.
Solution
Create 50 reBOOT Learning Centres in partnership with community centres and schools across Canada.
Learners can achieve educational objectives with networked computers in a fun and supervised environment where they can interact with peers and mentors. Centres will be provided with laser printers, webcams, internet access and a computer training program.
This national program will enrich the lives of up to 50,000 Canadian youths and 15,000 adults by providing technology. The centres will be installed in underserved areas most affected by the recession.
We are expert at building computer centres and are asking for $5,000 per centre for a total of $250,000.
This is an environmental and educational endeavour as the centres will be built from donated equipment refurbished by volunteers and co-op students.
Canada`s Leading Green-Tech Charity
reBOOT Canada is a national charity which provides computer hardware, training and service to charities, non-profit organizations and individuals with limited access to technology. reBOOT receives no government funding.
Since 1995, we have diverted over 5,000 tonnes of electronic waste from landfill and have distributed over 100,000 pieces of equipment to more than 7,000 clients and non-profit organizations.
reBOOT Locations: reBOOT Canada (Toronto), reBOOT New Brunswick, reBOOT Nova Scotia, reBOOT Peterborough, reBOOT Vancouver, reCONNECT Montreal.

One man's junk is another man's treasure. Need to pay forward - donate your outdated computers, old cell phones and accessories to reBOOT and make a difference in someones life. Keep our landfill free of these reusable items. Tell your friends to vote daily and support this excellent idea. Keep up the great work!!!

Kids love computers and having them in schools could significantly lower the drop-out rate and give them useful skills for the job market. Education is the solution to most of society's problems. With education, individuals can get a job and earn a decent living. This will, in turn, lower the crime rate.

Homer used to build his own computers and happily collected parts from friends as well as purchasing. When he began to focus on the software side, we had a basement full. Too good to throw away - to say nothing of the environmental problems, but the stuff was REALLY in the way. We heard about reBOOT, loaded up the truck, and took them a full load. TWICE. Happy to have it gone. Happy to be environmentally responsible. Happy to help others. Definitely NOT a "DOH!"

I learned about reBOOT when a small non-profit group I worked with received a computer and printer for the office. reBOOT gave us technical support and software and it made a HUGE difference. With that computer, we were able to build and maintain our website, develop promotional materials for fundraising and do our accounting. Since then, I've donated all of my outdated computer equipment to reBOOT. This new youth-based initiative is valuable and timely! Kudos to reBOOT for conceiving it.

Please vote reBOOT and get everyone you know to do the same. I have dropped off computers in the past and sent others there and knowing that it will be "reFABBED" is so inspiring - feel free to adopt the term. A few years ago, someone recommended them to me to drop off equipment and I did. They were so welcoming, provided a receipt and answered any questions I had about the organization and how the computer were wiped clean for security, etc. I LOVE the goal of 50 learning centres. I will send a note out to my condo group to vote and to support reBOOT with their computers. Keep going. You are an inspiration. Save our landfills and in so doing I believe their recipients will help your Canadian neighbours in need, students and seniors, and newcomers/immigrants through the non-profits they reach. Vote and donate equipment, and if you can, this year out of all years, donate funds to worthy causes like this. Keep it up guys! Your efforts matter.
