Aperçu:
The Acadia Recreation Club is the oldest organization in Sackville, and although small, they are trying to make an impact on and in our community. The original purpose of the 1924 club which is to provide an area and hall for community picnics and special events has been carried on by the members of the club throughout the years and is still the theme of today. The Club Members of today are still all volunteers. The club also tries to keep the cost down for the community groups of Sackville and surrounding area. The Acadian Hall has regular community groups that meet there including two churches, tai chi, photoclub, garden club, as well as Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) recreation.
The Acadian Recreation Club is trying to develop their property into a community park with a bandstand, walking trails, wheelchair accessible all inclusive playground equipment, spray park, and gardens. The plan outlines that the space will be filled with large shade trees, green spaces, walkways, gardens, trees and flowers, a bandstand, gazebos, park benches, a fontaine and state of the art children's playgroud. This is Lower Sackville’s largest volunteer beautification project ever.
Currently, there is six acres of land behind the hall and the library owned by the club. The club has started on the gardens portion of our project. Paths have been started and the flower beds formed. All completed by community volunteers. There is still alot more that has to be done in order to realize this project.
As with any private not for profit project, organizers are always looking for muscles and money. The $150,000 Aviva community Fund would be a significant contribution toward the completion of the walking trails, flower beds and transforming the space into a recreational park for the community.
