Pickering High School's 2nd Annual Benefit Concert
Aperçu:
In the school year of 2010 - 2011 one student at Pickering High School (PHS) approached a teacher with an idea. This idea was to start a task force. A task force that would work for an organization called LOVE146. She didn't have to look far before she found a teacher and group of students that wanted to help fight for this cause.
LOVE146's mission is to end child sex slavery through awareness, prevention, and aftercare.
Child sex slavery is a growing problem, yet so many people have no idea it exists, while others, not knowing what to do, turn a blind eye.
- Do you know that there are twice as many slaves now than at any other time in history?
- Do you know that 2 children are sold every minute?
- Do you know that in 2009, 24 children were sold at the Superbowl? One girl was sold over Craigslist as "A Superbowl Special", she was 14-years-old!
LOVE146 aims to re-abolish slavery. Nothing less.
The part that PHS plays in this is helping to educate as many people as we possibly can. The more people know about this growing problem, the more that we can do to abolish it.
The 2011 Task Force hosted a Benefit Concert to help raise money and awareness. Over 500 people attended to showed their support!
For our 2nd Annual Benefit Concert, we would like to, at the very least, double our attendance! We want to get as many people from the community as we can to attend, this means we need a venue, food, and entertainment.
At our concert, we educate everyone about child sex slavery and exploitation. We serve dinner, have raffles and draws, and have performers entertain our guests. The more money we have to help cover these costs, the more fun and educational our concert can be, meaning a BIGGER attendance!
Another huge cost that we have to cover is a venue, although our school is big, hosting an event of this size is pushing our limit. The amount of guests we would like to attend is too big to host at our school and the costs for a big enough venue is bigger than what our budget allows for.
If our concert is a success and is as big as we are hoping, then it may be possible for us to educate a majority of the towns of Pickering and Ajax.
It is the people in our communities that can help us to make a difference and help us to abolish child sex slavery and exploitation.
There is so much that our society does not know about the issue.

Together, we can re-abolish slavery, one community at a time.
