PA Feline Spay/Neuter/Vaccination Program
Cat overpopulation is a large problem that doesn't get as much attention as it really needs.
Some people choose to turn a blind eye, like breeders who just want to make
money. There are people who make a good income buit still think that vet visits aren't important
or too much of a hassle because they're expensive or they don't accept billing services. Then there are others who don't make good money and as much as they want to, they can't afford to get their
"fur babies" proper health care.
Port Alberni has a population of approximately 17, 743 people. A great majority of them are animal lovers. How many pets do you think they have? We only have 4 vets in town and only one acts as the "emergency" vet. Spaying costs about $90 dollars. Booster shots can cost up to over $120 and cats really need them to prevent their own STDs, Feline Leukemia and other serious diseases.
It's also a big valley that still has a lot of rural areas so on the other hand, think about how many
abandoned or feral animals are out there: scared, ill and of course, breeding, breeding and BREEDING?
A male and female cat can make up to over 20, 000 kittens in about five years and go up to 400, 000 in
seven? _There has to be at least more then 30 feral cats around my neighbourhood alone._
...One of my own cats passed away because she had too many babies. 3 litters, 18 kittens - too hard on her kidneys. I was trying to finish highshcool so I didn't have time for a job and my dad didn't really
deem it as a high priority on his list because he doesn't really like cats and doesn't like spending
money on what he saw as unecessary.
I don't want another "Tabitha Incident". It's been seven months and I'm still trying to deal with it
because she wasn't just a pet to me, she was my "daughter".
**So, this is my pitch.
I want to help improve the health of the feline residents of the Alberni community by setting up a
Spay/Neuter and Vaccination program.
No to Low Cost ($10 max) for Low Income families.
Small Fee for those who can afford to make "donations" to keep this endeavour running for as long as
