My idea is to educate the professionals,community about sex workers (street level) and how sex work and trauma at a street level is so very different than those with addiction issues.Even though they both include homelessness,lack of medical attention due to poor choices along with lifestyle. I have done workshops but have had to attach a cost to pay for speakers,videos,creating of street and crack dictionaries,so the attendance is good but after speaking to people if the workshop of free of charge we could reach a larger audience. Audiences such as students studying to be social workers with no knowledge of street level sex trade as it is not taught in class in the depth we are able to bring to them.Probation,Ontario Works,Public Health,Schools,and Community.Instead of one staff being able to come we could bring the workshop to them. Having sex workers share their experience to professionals with the open door for discussion after to us is hands on learning allowing professionals to realize meeting those in the sex trade whered they are at is what it is all about.So together we can bring about change and create exit stratagies for sex workers. The Niagara Region is just starting to create services for sex workers and this education is so needed to allow others to understand this issue.We have a large sex industry in Niagara both indoor and street level with murdered women also,bearing in mind sex work is what they do it is not who they are.They are someone`s child,mother,sister.This is a vulnerable sometimes tragic topic but so needed to educate those who are in a position of service.If granted this money the goal is to do workshop in all of this region so we may stand together.
